AmaTuks welcomed back Thabo Mosadi from injury. Mosadi underwent a knee injury at the beginning of the season, and Coach Steve Barker opted to give the middle fielder a chance to start the match.
Both teams looked stable and had opportunities to win the game but none of them could find the back of the net.
The first real chance of the first-half came from AmaTuks when Mpho Maruping made a darting run into Platinum Stars' half 14 minutes into the game, before seeing his attempt blocked by Dikwena’s goal-keeper Tshepo Gumede.
AmaTuks were dealt a blow five minutes before half-time when Coach Steve Barker was forced to replace the on-form forward Mpho Maruping with Dumisani Ngwenya due to an injury. Maruping landed awkwardly and had to be taken off due to a knee injury.
Platinum Stars came out for the second half looking to up the tempo. They nearly caught AmaTuks napping as Robert Ng'ambi tapped the ball in the net from close range. The goal was disallowed as the assistant on the near side flagged the Malawi born midfielder for offside.
AmaTuks found their feet 10 minutes into the second half from a solid build-up which started deep from Dikwena’s half through Mpho Matsi, who fed Thabo Mosadi, before Niang attempted a header that went over the cross bar.
The next fixture will see AmaTuks travel to Cape Town to face Ajax Cape Town, on Saturday the 29 September 2012 at the Green Point Stadium. Kick-off is at 15:00, the match will be live on SuperSport 4.
