Ajax Cape Town was dominant in the first thirty minutes or so of the first half. Almost sporadically, AmaTuks would launch a few attacks until getting their first chance at goal fifteen minutes into the game. AmaTuks were awarded a free kick in front of the Urban Warriors’ penalty box taken by Ramahlwe Mphahlele. He picked Niang in the box and the latter’s header fell straight into the hands of the Ajax goal keeper, Sander Westerveld.
A few minutes later, the Urban Warriors got their first real chance at goal in the 25th minute when Koen van der Laak found himself unmarked in front of the box. However his shot sailed safely over the cross bar for AmaTuks.
The home side continued to push forward and apply more pressure on the AmaTuks’ defence. In the twenty-eighth minutes of the game, AmaTuks lost possession of the ball in their own half and a long pass by Matthew Booth found Karma Billiat unmarked on the left flank. Billiat used the opportunity effectively by crossing the ball across the goal mouth to find Lebogang Manyama unmarked in the AmaTuks penalty box. Manyama struck the ball confidently into the AmaTuks goals to make it 1-0 in favour of the home side.
Though a bit under pressure by the home side’s foray into their half, AmaTuks kept on plodding away when opportunities arose to do so. Just a few minutes before half time, AmaTuks got level after some excellent play by Aubrey Ngoma whose shot went high into the top right corner of Ajax’s goals. Both teams went into the half time break level at 1 – 1.
The Urban Warriors came into the second half still looking for goals to take the lead. At the 68th minutes, Ajax almost scored when their star forward, Billiat out ran the AmaTuks defence, only to be denied a goal when his shot fell straight into the AmaTuks keeper, Washington Arubi’s hands.
The match became a see-saw battle, from one end to the other until AmaTuks took the lead in the 74th minute when the Urban Warrior’s defence were not able to clear the ball out of their own penalty area. As a consequence, Mame Niang found himself in a good position to strike the ball firmly into the Ajax goal making the score 2 -1 in favour of AmaTuks.
The goal appeared to spur AmaTuks on, with Ajax getting demoralised. AmaTuks extended the lead in the 77th minute through a Thabo Mosadi cross from the right flank that Aubrey Ngoma handsomely headed passed the Ajax goal keeper to make the score 3 – 1 in favour of AmaTuks.
From this point onward, AmaTuks kept on piling more pressure. Subsequently, Ngoma outpaced the Ajax defenders to calmly strike the ball pass the Ajax goal keeper into the net for his hat trick and AmaTuks’ lead increased to 4 goals to 1.
With the writing on the wall for Ajax Cape Town, Ngoma calmly slotted the fifth goal for AmaTuks, and his fourth goal of the match, to give AmaTuks a comfortable 5 – 1 win.
