AmaTuks took the lead in the first half through a Bongani Zungu goal. Zungu easily beat the Pirates goalkeeper Moneeb Josephs after receiving a pass from defender Ramahlwe Mphahlele in the twelveth minute of the game.
Both teams took a water break in the 25th minute due to the hot weather. Immediately after the restart, in the twenty-seventh minutes, Pirates equalised through Collins Mbesuma from a deflected ball by AmaTuks’ Siyabonga Shoyisa..
Orlando Pirates returned in the second half with a tactical plan to put the AmaTuks defence under pressure with home team reacting well. In the 57th minute Mame Niang watched in disbelief as his header hit the Pirates upright after a clinical pass by Aubrey Ngoma
Shortly after the AmaTuks miss, Pirates were awarded a penalty after Mphahlele was judged to have brought Oupa Manyisa down in the penalty box. Andile Jali; an AmaTuks protégé took the penalty and calmly sent the AmaTuks goalkeeper the wrong way to give Pirates a 2 – 1 lead.
In the sixty-sixth minutes, Mbesuma extended Pirates’ lead after receiving a pass from Sifiso Myeni and outpacing the AmaTuks defence to make the final score to Pirates.
AmaTuks did not give up as they continued to push forward in search of a goal. During this period, AmaTuks lost defender Junior Sibande through injury. He was replaced by forward Diyo Sibisi in a move that showed that AmaTuks will continue to attack Pirates in search of goals..
The last few minutes of the game saw AmaTuks throwing more bodies forward and putting Pirates under pressure. Unfortunately it was not to be for AmaTuks as the final score ended 3-1 to Pirates.
