The winner of the match (Bloemfontein Celtic) played Kaizer Chiefs in the final at 15h00 on the same day.
The tournament is sponsored by the Gauteng department of Sport, Culture and Recreation in partnership with the City of Tshwane.
The match ended 1-1 at regulation. AmaTuks equalised through a penalty with 10 minutes remaining before the stoppage time.
The pre-season tournament offers coaches an opportunity to see the players and try different combination before the start of the season.
Coach Steve Barker gave the new signings a run in preparation for the season ahead; Fikru Teferra Lemessa, Obadiah Tarumbwa, Lucky Mathosi, Siphelele Luthuli, Grant Kekana.
“It was a bit of a tight game, there were not too many chances taken and I think a draw was a fair reflection of the 90 minutes.”
“In a penalty shootout anything can happen and a couple of young players put up their hand to take penalties. Hopefully they learn from this, and rather they learn in a pre-season friendly than making the error in an official game.”
“I’m pleased to see where we are in terms of our conditioning and preparations; it was a test to see how competitive we are after losing a couple of players and bringing in new one. I think we still have a lot of work to do in terms of getting the team more coordinated.” Coach Barker told members of the media after the match.
