The team went into the match without strikers Atusaye Nyondo and Geofrey Massa. Nyondo was dropped from the team on the eleventh hour because of flu, while Massa is still nursing an injury.
Even though the visitors enjoyed most of the possession in the first half, AmaTuks stood firm and organised as they also tried to penetrate the Pirates defence.
AmaTuks had a clear chance at goal in the 26th minute. Thabo Monyamane received a decent cross from Thabo Mosadi from the right flank, but his header was saved by Senzo Meyiwa.
Pirates continued to put AmaTuks under pressure, but keeper Washington Arubi was up to the task as he made a couple of saves to keep AmaTuks in the game.
The only goal of the match was scored in the 83rd minute; just after Pirates missed a chance to open the scoring with Kermit Erasmus’ shot going over Arubi’s goals.
AmaTuks capitalised on the miss with an immediate counter attack. Arubi made a long ball to Mpho Matsi who flicked the ball over to Mosadi. Mosadi made no mistake as he beat Meyiwa and passing into the net with seven minutes of play remaining.
The win pushes AmaTuks one space up to 10th on the log table with 26 points from 21 matches.
