Faculty of EMS staff participate in 31st SAIMS Conference

The University of Pretoria was well represented when researchers from the Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences (EMS) attended the 31st Southern African Institute for Management Scientists (SAIMS) Conference hosted at the Nelson Mandela University in Port Elizabeth.
 
One of the key objectives of SAIMS is the purposeful development of the management field as a science, which it achieves through promoting the interests of management scientists in Southern Africa in accordance with identified needs by creating and developing a forum for the discussion of appropriate management education and research.
 
In line with this, the theme of the conference was ‘Responsible management in disruptive times’.
The papers presented by Faculty of EMS staff were:
  • The association between sources of financial advice and retirement confidence among pre-retirees in South Africa (J Visagie and CH van Schalkwyk)
  • The association of South African money attitudes with financial knowledge and financial risk tolerance (CH Van Schalkwyk and J Visagie)
  • The influence of financial literacy on the retirement planning behaviour of South Africans (NT Dhlembeu and MK Kekana)
Keynote speakers at the event included Tommy van Zyl, Chief Executive Officer of the ZZ2 farming group, as well as Prof Jonathan Jansen, Distinguished Professor of Education.
