Important conditions

  1. The University considers applications for financial assistance from students who are South African citizens or permanent residents.

     
  2. Enrolled students with citizenship in SADC countries are considered for UP undergraduate achievement bursaries, excluding top achiever awards, provided they meet the criteria.

     
  3. Enrolled students who are non-South African citizens are also considered for UP postgraduate scholarship awards.

     
  4. Prospective students must first apply for admission to the University and an application for study financing may be submitted only after a student number has been allocated.

     
  5. To apply online go the UP Portal. Contact the Client Service Centre, UP main campus for assistance.

     
  6. Study finance applications with supporting documents not submitted will not be processed.

     
  7. Students previously registered at other universities must submit a complete academic record with their application form.

     
  8. Achievement bursaries for new and senior undergraduates will be awarded automatically. Persons interested in any of the other bursaries and loans should submit an application for them. The closing date is 31 October.


  9. The values of bursaries advertised are subject to change and merely serve as guidelines.

     
  10. Bursaries are fully repayable should bursary holders discontinue or terminate the study programme, for whatever reason, at any stage during the year in which the bursary was awarded.

     
  11. Should a bursary holder change his/her study programme during the year in which the award was made, the bursary value as initially awarded for the first study programme enrolled for, will remain unchanged. The award will therefore not be cancelled or adjusted upward/downward to align it with consecutive study programmes enrolled for.

     
  12. Bursaries will not be awarded to students enrolled for a special study programme.

     
  13. The University reserves the right to amend, without prior notice, the regulations and conditions applicable to the allocation of bursaries and loans.
