Ms Bonnie Kneen, who a DLitt student in the Department of English, was recently member of a panel discussion on Representations of Violence in Africa, hosted by the Faculty Research Themes: Visual Technologies, The Child and the Story, Southern Modernities, Enhancing the Well-being of Vulnerable Children and Peace and Conflict, and sponsored by the Melon Foundation. Bonnie’s paper “The avatars of Pip and Little Dorrit: tropes and stereotypes in the representation of violence, pain and childhood in post-colonial South Africa” was read on her behalf by Prof. Molly Brown, who joined Susanne Gehrmann, Humboldt University, Berlin, Anna-Marie de Beer, Department of Modern European Languages and Angelo Fick, ENCA and Guest Lecturer, Department of Visual Arts, in the panel discussion.
