Prof Nigel Barker, Dr Quenton Kritzinger and MSc student Lizo Masters (Department of Plant and Soil Sciences) are studying the systematics of the genus Tylosema. Species in this group are drought and produce nutritious seeds, making the "elandsboontjie" a potentially important indigenous crop if domestication and cultivation is possible.
