Research in the Eastern Cape

Posted on May 29, 2008

After conducting an intervention research study in one of the schools during the period 2003 to 2005 (focusing on an informal settlement’s coping with HIV&AIDS by relying on existing assets and available resources) Prof Ebersöhn and Dr Ferreira are currently exploring the possibility of the initial school replicating the process in two other schools in the area. Their recent field visit follows on discussions with the initial school during 2007 and January 2008, as well as a series of training sessions in March 2008, during which Prof Ebersöhn and Dr Ferreira trained seven educators of the initial school to fulfil the role of facilitators in the follow-up study. During their recent field visit Prof Ebersöhn and Dr Ferreira investigated the replication of the first phase of the research process as conducted in the initial school in 2003. The educators of the initial school successfully fulfilled the role of facilitators, by conducting focus groups and facilitating three workshops with fifteen educators of the two new schools. In this manner, they seemingly paved the way for the next two series of sessions that will follow in July and November 2008.
