Department of Library Services Newsletter

Welcome message 2021
Lindiwe Soyizwapi, Department of Library Services Director

It is my great pleasure to welcome all academic staff, professional staff and students to the University of Pretoria Libraries. The Department of Library Services supports a full range of research, teaching and learning activities across all our campuses and provides a broad range of print and electronic collections in all areas of the sciences, technology, engineering, medicine, arts, humanities, law, social sciences, theology and religion.

The Library is committed to the continued support of the teaching, learning and research needs of our staff and students. We have made it our priority to ensure that many resources and services are accessible online and we have adjusted our spaces and services to coincide with campus health and safety guidelines. Access to the physical spaces is made available depending on national lockdown levels.

These are some of the services that are available:

  • Online consultations, training sessions and workshops
These services are provided by the Learning Centre, Research Services, Faculty Libraries and Digital Scholarship services.
  • Requests and collection of books and other materials
Direct access to physical collections is closed. Staff and students may request books online and a collection time will be communicated to each person.
  • Support for teaching, learning and research
The online library remains fully functional and Information Specialists are available to assist.
  • Special Collections
Staff from Special Collections are available to assist with requests.
  • Inter-library Loans (ILL) service
Requests may be made for materials to be sourced from other libraries. Should we experience delays in receiving print materials, the requester will be notified timeously.

Appointment-based access:
Due to the current national lockdown level, individual study spaces are not available. Once the levels are adjusted, this will be adjusted accordingly. Please be on the lookout for announcements in this regard.

Requests for assistance:

We look forward to seeing you online or in our libraries. We also wish you a successful and productive academic year.
