EMS students get ‘Ready for Work’

Posted on November 19, 2018

Five students in the Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences (EMS) have been selected as winners in the inaugural EMS Ready for Work Competition. The six-week competition was one of the first initiatives of the EMS faculty house, Commercii, 2018/19 Executive Committee and encouraged students to prepare for the world of work.
The Ready for Work Programme is a free four-package online course for registered students, presented by Enterprises UP. It aims to make university students work ready, by equipping them with the necessary skills required for the 4th Industrial Revolution. The course is in the form of multiple-choice questions, and a student must achieve a certain average to complete the package and get a certificate of completion.
Gontse Mosese, the Academics and Mentorship Officer of Commercii, came up with the incentive-based competition after he had completed the course himself. He said: “The competition allowed us to use a tool that would benefit our students and their future, and added the fun element of standing a chance of winning a prize. My term goals for my portfolio are to be that bridge between academics and having fun and I hope that all the participants gained something that will give them an advantage within the workplace one day. Knowing that I had a positive impact on someone else’s future would be the greatest joy for me.’’
The winners of the EMS Ready for Work Competition 2018, who each received a prize worth R1000 are Luke Salomon, Lerato Tapala, Deborah Amenigy, Raeesa Ismail, and Nicolien de Jager.
Much thanks to the Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences Dean’s office for sponsoring this initiative.
