Alida van Niekerk recently completed her MPhil in Communication Management (coursework) at the University of Pretoria and was recognised as the top student in the programme.
Van Niekerk’s high academic achievements are attributed to never giving up and believing she could overcome any obstacle thrown at her. She explained that when times were tough during her academic career, she always put her mind towards her goal and focused her efforts.
Van Niekerk stressed the importance of and need for preparation and time management during her studies. She learnt this vital skill early on in her academic career and advises others to ensure they have discipline to apply their mind. Alida is currently employed as a media and communication specialist for a large financial services firm and she finds her role challenging, yet enjoyable. Despite being a successful business woman, Van Niekerk also runs a balanced life as an enthusiastic scuba diver and has taken part in amateur theatre in her spare time.
