The book is edited by Krishnamurthy Sriramesh from Purdue University, Ansgar Zerfass from Leipzig University and the Norwegian Business School, and Jeong-Nam Kim from Purdue University, and serves as a Festschrift honouring the lifelong work of scholars, Jim Grunig and Larissa Grunig, in the development of Public Relations and Communication Management as a management-specific academic discipline and practice. This volume recognises Grunig's contributions to the discipline over the past four decades.

Prof Rensburg, Ms De Beer and Ms Steyn contributed a chapter in the book on The Pretoria School of Thought: from strategy to governance and sustainability, in which the evolvement of what has come to be coined internationally as The Pretoria School of Thought – a scientific worldview on strategic communication management shared by researchers, lecturers and postgraduate students in the academic field of Communication Management at the University of Pretoria is described. In the past two decades South Africa has contributed to the global search for excellence in communication management as a functional area of enterprise management. This move had been initiated by the Excellence Study in Public Relations and Communication Management.
