TuksChess who is the current University Sports South Africa (USSA) Chess Champions hosted the TuksChess Social Tournament on Saturday, the 14th October 2017 at the StripeUP Café, UP Sports Campus, University of Pretoria.
The aim of the tournament was to enjoy the best of both worlds (chess and social) as a Year End Function for the club members and any chess lovers in and around Pretoria.

The day started with registrations and tea/coffee between 08:30 – 09:00 am, followed by 5 Swiss rounds of 15 min rapid chess games. Each player would receive one point for each game won and half a point for each game drawn. The winner would then be decided by the player with the most games won. A cash prize was awarded to the winner of the tournament.

The winner of the tournament was Alex Maredi who got 4.5 points out of 5 games. Alex represented TuksChess at the 2017 TuksChess men’s USSA team and placed 5th nationally. The runner-up Moses Mosuweu from TUT got 3.5 points. In the third place was Cora Mak who got 3.5 points. Cora represented TuksChess at the 2017 TuksChess female USSA team and placed 3rd nationally. The surprise package of the tournament was the 13-year-old Keagan Moss who managed to win 2 games placing 12th. The day then ended with a lovely braai
