TuksChess: Battle of the Res’s continued (version 2013) @Sci-Enza

Posted on August 08, 2013

Although a few apologies came in from several residences, the tournament was well attended by 9 res’s and the number of attendees was about 40 students, 12 of which were ladies. The residences that participated were; Huis Jacaranda (post-graduate res), Boekenhout (defending champions 2012), Olienhout, Olympus (doctors), EBIT, Tuks Village, Vividous ladies, Magrietjie and Jasmyn. Olympus who have been runners up in this competition were hoping to finally turn their fortune this year, unfortunately that was not to be. However, they did managed to keep their top three spot in the competition by taking the bronze medal. Tuks Village, led by a regular TuksChess first team player Seth Sikhwivhilu, were the champions of the tournament after having narrowly beaten Boekenhout by half a point. Winners of the ladies competition was Vividus and the runners up were Jasmyn. The main idea behind the TuksChess Res Competition is to attract new players from the Res’s and also make them aware of our TuksChess family.   TuksChess would like to extend their greatest gratitude and appreciation to the Sci-Enza staff Rudi Horak, Kagiso Ledwaba, Emmanuel Nekhudzhiga,Thami and Papi, for allowing the tournament to take place there and also for providing the players with the most tasteful refreshments.  We hope this partnership continues. TuksChess activities that one should look out for is the ladies tournament in August (as part of the ladies month initiative), TuksChess open, intervarsity games and also USSA 2013 team qualifications.
