Keynote Speaker: Professor Meoli Kashorda

Prof Meoli Kashorda is currently the Executive Director of Kenya Education Network (KENET), the National Research and Education Network of Kenya. Since 2011, he leads an engineering team developing broadband Internet connectivity to Kenyan universities, research institutions and tertiary colleges. He has also been the technical team leader, building the community digital platform for Kenya to support remote teaching, learning and research. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he heads the team, developing remote teaching and e-learning for universities in Kenya. Prof Kashorda is a professor of information systems at United States International University - Africa (USIU) in Kenya (on leave of absence). 


Since 2006, Prof Kashorda has been the principal investigator for a research project measuring the E-readiness of Universities in Kenya and East Africa that includes measuring indicators of Internet affordability, network learning and networked campuses (see https://ereadiness.kenet.or.ke/ ). He was a keynote speaker at the 2020 Commission for University Education Biennial Conference on the University Education in Disruption in October 2020 that addressed the response to COVID-19 pandemic by Kenyan Universities and the role of KENET. He has been a convenor of the Annual Vice Chancellors' forum that addresses emerging issues in higher education, including universities' digital transformation since the year 2010. He holds a BSc degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Nairobi and a PhD in Electronic Systems Engineering from the University of Essex in England. He is a Member of the Institution of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (MIEEE) and the Institution of Engineering and Technology (MIET).
