As part of our community outreach programme under our Urban Studio Project, the Centre for Contextual Ministry hosted training for community organisations on how to identify, start and sustain community-based projects.
This training was a resounding success with 20 community members from Mamelodi attending the workshop and developing their projects. Some of the participants decided to join other NGO’s in their community in order to learn more about developing their own projects. There was also a wide range of organisations represented such as the well-established SOS Children’s Village and Tateni to organisation just starting out such as Helping Hands.
Three organisation were able to revision there Mission in Mamelodi and have already accessed funding. These are Thandanani, SOS Children’s Village and Tateni. Thandanani has taken many of the smaller groups under their wing and these groups are seeking to replicate the successes of Thandanani within their own communities. These students all received a certificate from Enterprises@UP during our May 2019 Certificate Ceremony.
This workshop was ran in partnership with the Institute for Urban Ministry and the Centre for Restorative Justice. CCM has been journeying with these groups since the end of the workshop and we are currently planning a follow-up course called Building and Sustaining Community Organisations in November 2019.
