Purpose of the course:

To enable pastors and other counselors to deal with the process of recovery and healing after a traumatic experience. We live in a traumatized society. The church and/or the pastoral counselor is often the only ‘immediate’ available resource for support and guidance.

Who may attend:

Any person with a grade 12 and who is interested and/or involved in addressing individual and community trauma.

The course is offered over three full days.

COURSE CONTENT

  • Understanding the nature and impact of trauma
  • Weaving stories of trauma.
  • Understanding the impact of crisis and trauma on the individual and family.
  • Trauma Counselling
  • Describe and implement trauma counselling.
  • Defusing and debriefing.
  • Post-traumatic stress disorder.
  • Finding meaning in trauma. Day 3: Care for the caregiver
  • Keep the fire burning: a program for caregiver restoration.
