Purpose of the course:

This course is introducing pastors and lay ministers to a comprehensive approach to marriage ministry in their churches, i.e. marriage preparation, marriage enrichment, counselling in situations of ‘normal‘ marital stress, and dealing with trauma in marriage

Who may attend:

Pastors, church and community leaders dealing with marriage-related Situations, and having Grade 10

2 weeks of contact tuition over a year

COURSE CONTENT

  • an overview of marriage and being married in South Africa
  • an overview of the fundamental of marriage, such as knowledge, skills, values, resources and rituals
  • an introduction to a narrative approach to counselling within the context of marriage
  • introduction to modes of pre-marital and post-marital support
  • developing a pre-marital counselling and preparation programme in their churches
  • developing a marriage enrichment programme in their churches
  • introduction to the necessity of care for the care-giver and possible resources that are available
