Gugulethu Ngwenya is MasterCard Foundation scholar pursuing her MA in International Relations at the University of Pretoria. Her research is centered on the critical topic of women's participation in the ocean’s economy with reference to South Africa and Seychelles as units of analysis. This research underscores her commitment to understanding and promoting gender equity within economic and maritime sectors. Gugulethu's academic interests extend beyond her current research focus. She is also deeply engaged in exploring issues related to maritime security in Africa, as well as the intricate dynamics of political economy and women's roles in African politics. She obtained her undergraduate degree in political science in 2021. Subsequently, she achieved an Honours degree in International Relations in 2022. Beyond her academic endeavours, she enjoys leisure activities such as reading, particularly in the cozy ambiance of coffee shops.
