#TuksVolleyball: TuksVolleyball earns bronze at the VSA National Club Championship

Posted on September 29, 2016

For the first time in 8 years TuksVolleyball has participated in the annual National Volleyball Club Championships organised by Volleyball South Africa. Teams from all over the country participated and the Tuks women's team is proud to bring home a bronze medal.

The competition was held in Durban at UKZN's Westville campus, where the games were played on the four indoor courts. Twenty men's teams and 7 women's teams battled for the top spot in the country from 21-24 September.

The TuksVolleyball coaching team of Isheunesu Munatsi, George Fourie and Dina Kladis have been preparing the teams during the last few months with extensive skills, strategy and fitness training, while the executive committee headed by Chairperson Tawnay Gierke managed the administrative aspects of the tour.

During the group stages of the competition the TuksVolleyball men captained by Conrad Johannes raised their game to meet the tough competition of bronze medalists DUT, the experienced team from UWC and Kuvuki from KZN. The highlight was the game against Kamplits, when the Tuks men beat the Limpopo team 3:2.

It took the Tuks women captained by Margrit Springer two confident wins against Kamplits from Limpopo and Watsonia from KZN to finish at the top of their group. The semi finals against Gauteng rivals VUT proved to be a challenge, but in the playoffs for the third place Tuks regained their determination and won the game in three straight sets.

After taking bronze at the National Club Championship, winning silver at USSA in July and also silver at the Varsity Sport beach tournament in May this year, TuksVolleyball has made a mark on the South African volleyball scene and is determine to add gold to their silverware in the near future.
