When one cease to dream one cease to live. ~Malcolm S. Forbes

On 25 August 2015 the Faculty of Law, University of Pretoria, fulfilled a dream of Hlamulo Mlalani, a young girl from Hazyview in Mpumalanga, of one day ruling in court as a judge.

Hlamulo’s visit to TuksLaw was facilitated by Reach for a Dream (RFAD), an organisation that fulfills the dreams of children who have been diagnosed with life-threatening illnesses.  Starting off at the Hatfield court, under the wings of the Law Clinic’s attorney Edna Pitsi and candidate attorney Sandra Prinsloo, Hlamulo witnessed and participated in court proceedings.

After meeting with the Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Law, Prof Anton Kok, the newly elected 2015/16 Law House Executive Committee under the leadership of Chair Darragh Meaker whisked Hlamulo and her grandmother, Alice, to a delict lecture and a tour of the campus.  After a demonstration in the Moot Court by members of the TuksLaw Moot Society the day came to an end with a picnic in front of the Law Building.  An overwhelmed Hlamulo, accompanied by her grandmother Alice, received a tablet computer from RFAD.

No dream is too small or too big for the RFAD Foundation, ranging from children wanting to see the ocean for the first time, taking a drive in a sports car, a flight in a helicopter, becoming a judge for the day or even visiting Disney World - all of this to encourage children to use their dreams to fight life-threatening illnesses and inspire hope.  And TuksLaw is always keen to make a positive impact on the lives of our youth, the change makers of the future.  Thus, we also participated in the RFAD’s Reach for Your Slippers Campaign on 7 August.  Staff’s feet, snuggly embedded in their favourite slippers ranging from sheep wool to fake lynx, also enjoyed a chiropody breather on this day.
