#TuksFootball: UP-Tuks Stumble at Wits

Posted on August 31, 2016

The home side started off in the best way possible as Graeme Dor latched onto a good delivery from a set-piece by Mahle Mtabane and he calmly flicked the ball into the net in the 2nd minute. UP-Tuks were forced to push numbers forward to get the equaliser and they were duly rewarded in the 10th minute after Obert Rukaro flicked the ball into his own net to make it 1-1.

The visitors did not settle for level pegging as Mbongeni Masilela made it 2-1 through a fine header from a corner taken by Jurgen Booysen in the 16th minute. Tuks began to calm the match down to control it and keep the home side at bay, they were happy to keep the ball and knock it about.

Wits levelled matters in the 32nd minute as Graeme Dor latched onto a loose ball in the box and toe-poked it into net to get his brace. The match headed into half-time with the score-line deadlocked at 2-2.

Wits lifted their performance in the 2nd half as they went toe to toe with Tuks, most of their chances came from counter-attacks as the visitors controlled possession. UP-Tuks missed numerous opportunities to take the lead as their attackers were missing chances.

Wits took the lead again with a well worked set-piece which was finished by Graeme Dor who completed his hat-trick. Tuks piled the pressure onto the resilient Wits defence to no success as the home side held onto their lead to record their first victory of the tournament.
