2024 Symposium of Advanced Materials Processing & Characterisation

The drive for the creation of metals and products with superior properties, as well as the need for their reduced carbon footprint, necessitates continued and innovative focus on alloy design, optimization and modelling of thermomechanical processes, and microstructural characterisation.

This symposium focuses on the intrinsic link between alloy design, process optimization, and resulting microstructures and properties, highlighting novel characterization techniques and simulation methods to drive innovation in materials science and metallurgical engineering. Novel and advanced materials characterization techniques, simulation approaches and carbon footprint considerations will also be showcased.

To address and cater to these needs, we are pleased to inform you that the Department of Materials Science & Metallurgical at the University of Pretoria & the Centre for Materials Engineering at the University of Cape Town will co-host the 2024 Symposium of Advanced Materials Processing & Characterisation from the 27th of November to the 29th of November 2024 at the Engineering 4.0 facility in Hillcrest, Pretoria.

The newly erected Engineering 4.0 is a hub centred around innovation where our guest speakers steer us through the current challenges and solutions in the processing and characterisation of metals

The symposium’s agenda will feature targeted technical and subject specific workshops on Day 1 as well as keynote presentations by invited global experts on Days 2 and 3. The metal groups will include steel, aluminium, and titanium. The symposium will also include presentations of relevant research activities from a variety of local universities and research institutions, which will be further contextualized by contributions from our local metals producing industries.

Join us for this exciting and impactful event. Submit an abstract to showcase your work or join as an attendee.  Limited in-person seats are available, with the registration fee for the event set at R2 000 for in-person attendance. This will include meals, talks and activities scheduled for the symposium.

Attendees wishing to present are required to submit an abstract. Extended abstract submission deadlines have been extended to the 15th August 2024. Please fill in a new form for each attendee. RSVPs need to be completed by the 30th of September 2024

We can't wait to see and interact with all of you!
