Call for Abstracts

The Graduate Support Hub, invites senior Postgraduate students (Masters and Doctoral) to submit their abstracts for the upcoming Research Week.

Two options are available for this year’s research week:

1. Visualise your thesis presentation (VYT)

VYT calls for senior master's candidates to create an engaging 1-minute audio-visual representation of their dissertation and the potential benefits of their research, that can be perceived by a general audience. A template will be supplied to all shortlisted presenters.

• Open to all senior Masters candidates who have completed data collection;
• A written script (no more than 250 words);

Shortlisted candidates will be required to submit the following:

• a 1 minute visual representation of your research recorded in English 
• Strictly be in mp4 format;
• All VYT entries will be uploaded on the UP YouTube page and candidates will have to canvas for views.

***Entries longer than a minute will be disqualified.

2. 3 Minutes Thesis presentation 

The 3MT competition challenges doctoral researchers to compete and deliver a 3-minutes presentation using a static slide to an audince of non-specialists. 

• Open to senior Doctoral candidates who have completed their data collection;
• Submit an abstract of 200-250 words;
• The final presentation will be limited to a single static slide.

Please note that abstracts must be:

• Submitted online by or before 14 July 2023
• Be written in English;
• Only one submission is allowed; and
• Must be between 250-300 words and should clearly describe the general theme of the presentation and describe the methods and results.

All written abstracts will be peer-reviewed and selected delegates will be invited to present.

The final VYT entrants will be selected based on the number of Youtube views. All students must market their entries and the top 15 videos with the most views will be selected for the final competition.
