SPMA awards ceremony

11 June 2021

The School of Public Management and Administration (SPMA) recently held its first virtual annual awards ceremony, which honoured the top-achieving students in different categories for their performance in undergraduate and postgraduate studies. The ceremony was held on BlackBoard Collaborate and opened with a slideshow of previous awards events.

The intimate environment provided an opportunity for students’ academic and personal achievements to be acknowledged. A detailed biography of each student was read, after which the student was awarded his or her certificate virtually. At the end of the ceremony, students were given space to reflect on their academic journey as part of the SPMA community.

“The SPMA takes pride in encouraging excellence among its students by hosting the awards event annually,” said Prof Margaret Chitiga-Mabugu, Director of the SPMA. She explained that the awards, which include monetary incentives and certificates, have gone a long way in motivating students to excel in their academic endeavours. It was acknowledged that the achievements for 2020 are particularly remarkable, considering how studies and lives have been disrupted by the Covid-19 pandemic.
