| Module content | Students begin to interpret a selection of written and material remains from the Ancient Near East, Egypt, Greece and Rome, against their cultural and historical backgrounds, which are chosen around a theme or topic for that year. Primary sources and the associated secondary scholarship are presented through a critical lens. Approaches include ancient and modern methods, with the goal of showing the impact and relevance of ancient primary sources, and the cultural and social practices they present, on 21st century South African society. Students are also trained in critical reading, writing and interpretation skills. |
