Description:
When we are mobile, we can access services and participate in activities: work, study, leisure and shopping, amongst others. Our goal in the MOB-ility team is to develop a model, a "digital twin” of cities that captures the multi-modal transportation system - both passenger and freight movement on public and private transport modes. This long-term goal requires coding and testing of functionality in the MATSim open-source software, capturing and updating GTFS data for public transit services (including the UP campus transport), and studyingSouth African travel behaviour and transport policy decision-making. We also evaluate the emissions generated by transport.
• Programming capability is essential
• An interest in data mining/analysis/processing (i.e. data science)
• Competence in R and Java is beneficial
