Law Clinic attorney Helene Davidtsz attended the UPICLC 2018 (University of Pretoria International Consumer Law Conference 2018) held at the Protea Fire and Ice Hotel on 26 and 27 September 2018. The conference was an interesting and insightful conference and it provided the chance to listen to keynote speakers from overseas as well as local experts in Consumer Law. Delegates from Belgium, the Netherlands, Poland, Australia, Mauritius, Kenya and Nigeria also attended the conference. It was a great opportunity to catch up and exchange insights with colleagues from other universities, met at previous conferences.

The theme of the conference was ‘The Consumer in the Borderless Market’ and Helene presented a paper with the title “Consumer Protection in the Age of the Borderless Market and Globalisation”. The borderless market and globalisation changed consumer protection as we know it, and although borderless markets promise to provide many benefits to consumers, they also present some difficult consumer protection issues.
