Determined to Achieve the Mandate

The University of Pretoria Football Club's SAB Regional League team, Spartak, are top of the table in their group and are determined to win the group and qualify for the regional play-offs. The team has twice qualified for the play-offs but failed to gain promotion to the then Vodacom league.

On Friday 08 May 2015 Spartak hosted second placed Dondol Stars F.C on field B at the UP Sports Campus in a top of the table clash. The match, which ended in a goalless draw, was played at a very high tempo to a delighted small but very vocal crowd.

"It was not the best of results, given our performance tonight and the many opportunities that we created I felt we deserved to get a result. Lady Luck was not on our side but we will take the draw because we remain top of the log and are still five points ahead of them." Said captain Lawrence Ntswane.

Coach Jan Motaung:

"This was our most important match this season. They needed the three points to close the gap between us and we needed the three points to stay ahead of the pack. It was a good display of top class football and I think the supporters should be happy with the performances all round; even the officiating was top class tonight. We created the better chances but we just could not punish. All the players came to the party in this match but my stand out player tonight was Frank Rampedi, he is a versatile player but we usually play him in the middle of the park. Over the past few weeks we have lost all our front men to injuries so we opted to play Frank upfront because he is a very intelligent player. He has just returned from injury himself and we were worried about fitness but he did the job tonight.

We are happy with the boys, the discipline, the desire, the determination is there. They know what is at stake, the plan is to take this team to the next level looking at being in a more competitive level to better prepare these boys for promotion to the first team so getting this team to the ABC Motsepe League is in the best interest of the club. Coach Mosala has been watching some of our matches and with the PSL coming to a close the senior coaches will have more time to come watch the boys. Looking at their performances in this league and also in the Multichoice Diski Challenge, we are confident that they will invite most of these boys to pre-season training."

Spartak are five points clear of Dondol Stars F.C and their five remaining fixtures are Ivory Lions F.C, Blue Stars F.C, Cullinan F.C, No Fear Boys F.C as well as Liverpool F.C
