Danielle Hill is particularly interested in understanding the role planning/ers plays and can play in addressing informal settlements. Through a systems and de-colonial lens her work explores professional practices, informal upgrading management and leadership systems, urban governance, informal settlement upgrading approaches and processes, what (integrated) urban development necessitates? and transformative spatial planning practices and futures. Her work exposed her to first hand challenges, and experiences professional teams are confronted with when managing informal settlement upgrading programs- UISP in particular; everything from community engagement/participation to budgeting and project management/ leadership dynamics.
