2019 UP Music Festival

The UP Music Festival aims to enrich and educate the UP and wider community through concerts, masterclasses and interactive workshops. Musicians of various levels of proficiency can take part in masterclasses presented by expert musicians. Music lovers can enjoy performances in all music genres including instrumental music, opera, jazz and electroacoustic music. Expert musicologists will be presenting public lectures on topics ranging from music therapy to African music.

As part of the festival’s enrichment programme, lectures on music education in South African schools will be presented for all school music teachers. Scholars will have the opportunity to sign up for master classes presented by music lecturers from UP’s School of the Arts. Top participants will then be invited to perform in a public concert in the Musaion Theatre.

This year the Composer’s National Collegium will integrate with the UP Music Festival. The Composer’s National Collegium is a platform for the advancement and promotion of South African composers nationally, through the distribution and performance of new original compositions by creative musicians working within academia.
