As an international student at the University of Pretoria, you need to complete the registration process before your course starts. This is a very important step to ensure you have access to annual academic course material, the UP student portal and other essential information.
Remember to read your faculty yearbook as well during the registration process, as it contains more specific faculty rules and regulations.

5 January 2026
Why am I struggling to register?
Due to various reasons, such as outstanding tuition fees, a hold may be placed on a student’s account that prevents them from registering successfully.
To review your registration status, follow these steps:
Log in to the UP Student Portal.
Click on the UP Student Centre link.
Check for holds in the right column of the student centre.
Immigration requirements
All non-South African students who are holders of temporary residence permits are urged to upload the required unblocking or immigration clearance documents onto the UP Student Portal.
Student cards
Your student card is an identity card, transaction card, and access card – all in one! With your unique student card, you can purchase meals at your residence’s dining hall, access campuses, academic buildings such as the libraries, and verify your identity before writing tests and examinations.
