Admission Requirements

  1. Honours degree in Arts Therapies  or relevant honours degree (e.g. psychology, speech therapy, occupational therapy, social work or education) or relevant four-year bachelor’s degree
  2. A cumulative weighted average of at least 70% for the honours degree or the four-year bachelor's degree
  3. Psychology passed at final-year level. In the case of mature students, selected psychology modules are specified in order to meet the admission requirements.
  4. Practical audition

Selection Process

Limited spaces available

Audition-interviews assess the following:

  • Previous academic record (four-year degree with psychology to third year level)
  • Assessing musical and art abilities: performance on first instrument, level of musical proficiency on keyboard and guitar, aural skills (sight-singing, intervals), use of voice (sight-singing, vocal improvisation) and improvisation skills
  • In-depth interview exploring the candidate's personal issues and insights in terms of working with a range of client groups, and assessing psychological and emotional stamina for undertaking the training course

Selection is based on:

  • Academic performance of the previous degree (40%)
  • Proficiency in the relevant arts medium (20%)
  • Potential to apply the art form therapeutically (15%)
  • Ability to build rapport with clients (10%)
  • Life experience (5%)
  • Insight (5%); and
  • Maturity (5%)

Duration of study

2 years, full-time.
