- Craig will organize volunteers to help with the BioAgric year-end function.
- The year-end function will be held on 30 Oct 2003 at the Pretoria Zoo. The tickets will be sold from 6 Oct. The fee is R180 per couple and R100 per person. The table bookings will be booked online.
- PSANA decided to sponsor the year-end function
- Instead of putting up poster boards at the Final year symposium, we can give out a booklet (2 parts)
1: Post-graduate studies
2: Work opportunities
- We can ask for sponsorship from Marie Venter for the booklet
- Francois will resign at the end of 2003. The committee can elect somebody else or perform an election.
- There are a BioAgric braai on 2 Oct 2003
- Daya Reddy (from the NRF) published in a local newspaper that SA lack young researchers. Reddy further stated the main reason for this is inadequate equipment. However, PSANA feels that funding of the post-graduate students is shocking. NRF funding for students didn’t change in the last 5 years and payments are only late in the year.
- Marilize will phone D. Reddy for an appointment, so that the committee can lift their views. If it is unsuccessful, PSANA will write a letter to D. Reddy and UP with our problems. In case of no response, PSANA will go to the newspapers.
- If an article is published, UP receive R30 000. However, the student doesn’t receive any money. PSANA suggested that journals should be rated and according to the rating the amount should be calculated. PSANA recommend that more of the share should go to the promoter and less to the head of UP.
