What: The International Centre of Excellence in Water Resources Management (ICEWaRM) offers a scholarship program to high quality international students to study the multiple award-winning nested Master of Water Resources Management, including Graduate Certificate, Graduate Diploma and Masters options, delivered by its partner institutions. TWAS Research Grants Programme in Basic Sciences
What: The 'TWAS Research Grants' and 'TWAS Research Units in Least Developed Countries' have been amalgamated. Under this new scheme, grants are awarded to high-level promising research projects in biology, chemistry, mathematics and physics carried out by either individual scientists or research units in the 80 S&T-lagging countries (S&TLCs) identified by TWAS.

TWAS-COMSTECH Joint Research Grants
What: For young scientists in OIC countries working in science and technology to enable them to purchase the research facilities they need to enhance their productivity. The programme provides support for research projects in the following fields of science and technology: earth sciences, engineering sciences, information technology and computer sciences, materials science including nanotechnology, pharmaceutical sciences and renewable energy.
Who: Nationals of OIC Member States, with a PhD and some research experience, under 40 years of age.

Faculty for the Future Fellowships
What: Faculty for the Future fellowships are awarded to women from developing and emerging economies who are preparing for PhD or post-doctoral study in the physical sciences, engineering, or related disciplines to pursue advanced graduate study at top universities in their disciplines abroad. Grant recipients are selected as much for their leadership capabilities as for their scientific talents, and they are expected to return to their home countries to continue their academic careers and inspire other young women.

International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources 2010/2011 Call for Proposals
What: The International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture invites applications for its 2010-2011 cycle of grants. Eligibility extends to governmental and non-governmental organizations including genebanks and research institutions, farmers and farmers' organizations, and regional and international organizations - based in countries that are Contracting Parties to the Treaty.

Volkswagen Foundation: Knowledge for Tomorrow – Cooperative Research Projects in sub-Saharan Africa

ONE International – 2010 Africa Award
What: Applications are invited from individuals and civil society organizations based in Africa that help Africans meet one or more of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). (Goal 1 supports improved agricultural productivity; Goal 7 promotes environmental sustainability). The recipient will receive an award of up to US$100 thousand to expand their work. The ONE award is not a grant but recognition of successful past performance.

Food Security Center (FSC) Research Scholarships
What: In 2011, FSC is awarding up to 29 scholarships for PhD students and postdoctoral researchers for a period of 4 to 36 months. The Center wishes to attract outstanding PhD students and postdoctoral fellows pursuing a career in academia or development collaboration relevant to food security related issues. FSC offers three categories of scholarships: 1. Sandwich scholarships for PhD students (6 months); 2. Research scholarships for visiting postdoctoral researchers (4 months); 3. The Norman E. Borlaug Leadership Enhancement in Agriculture Program (LEAP)
What: A fellowship program, funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), to enhance the quality of thesis research of graduate students from developing countries who show strong promise as leaders in the field of agriculture and related disciplines. The Borlaug LEAP Fellowship supports engaging a mentor at a Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR) system center to support and enhance the thesis research and mentoring experience. Emphasis is placed on work that has relevance to the national development of the student's home country.
Currently there are two limited release Request for Applications (RFAs):
1. sub-Saharan African students conducting research on topics related to USAID's global hunger and food security initiative. The focus region is sub-Saharan Africa. All topics related to agriculture (as defined by Title XII) and food security are admissible. 2. developing country students conducting research in partnership with CRSPs (Collaborative Research Support Programs). The focus region is global. All topics related to agriculture (as defined by Title XII) and CRSP priorities are admissible.
Who: Citizens of a USAID-assisted country (for the targeted CRSP RFA, applicants are not limited to sub-Saharan Africa currently enrolled as an MS or PhD student at a U.S. or developing country university.

Vavilov-Frankel Fellowship
What: The Vavilov-Frankel Fellowship Fund aims to encourage the conservation and use of plant genetic resources by awarding Fellowships to outstanding young researchers from developing countries to carry out innovative research at an advanced research institute outside their home country for a period of three months to one year.
Who: Applicants should be nationals of low income and lower-middle income countries, according to
the Human and Income Poverty Index. They should be no more than 35 years of age, and should hold at least a Master’s degree (or equivalent) in a relevant subject area.

L’Oréal-UNESCO Regional Fellowships for Women in Science in sub-Saharan Africa
What: The L’Oréal-UNESCO Regional fellowships “For Women in Science” in sub-Saharan Africa seek to assist women scientists to realize important scientific research in all fields of science, engineering and technology. The aim of the fellowship is to assist women scientists to achieve a PhD degree in the fields of science, engineering and technology. Ten fellowships, up to a maximum value of US $20,000, will be awarded.
Who: Women scientists who are nationals or permanent residents of any country in sub-Saharan Africa. The age limit for the applicants is 40 years.

EC Research FP7 – Food, Agriculture and Fisheries, and Biotechnology 2011
What: Research call FP7-KBBE-2011-5 includes many opportunities for researchers in developing countries. Neglected zoonoses (KBBE.2011.1.3-01) is open to partner countries in Africa and other developing regions. System for European cattle evaluation (KBBE.2011.1.3-06) is open to Turkey and Balkan countries. Aquaculture (KBBE.2011.1.4-07) is open to the low-income food-deficit countries (list is linked from the call information). Productivity of perennial grasses (KBBE.2011.3.1-02), and biotechnology to convert bio-waste into bio-products (KBBE.3.4-01 and KBBE.2011.4-05), are also open to partners in developing countries (especially India in 4-05).

Orskov Foundation – Small Grants
What: Orskov makes grants of up to £2,500 to support agriculture in developing countries. One category of grants supports university students in agricultural studies related to poverty alleviation and environmental sustainabilty. Boehringer Ingelheim Fonds –Travel Grant
What: The Boehringer Ingelheim Fonds is a public foundation - an independent, not-for-profit institution for the exclusive and direct promotion of basic research in biomedicine. It supports researchers and projects aimed to experimentally elucidate basic phenomena of human life and pays particular attention to the promotion of junior scientists.
Who: For junior researchers pursuing experimental projects in basic biomedical research. European citizens working in Europe and overseas, and non-European citizens who will use the travel grant to work in Europe. Applicants must pursue an experimental project in basic biomedical research and belong to one of the following groups of junior scientists:
• PhD students or medical students pursuing an experimental doctoral thesis who are not older than 30 years of age;
• postdocs who are pursuing a particular research project who are not older than 32 years of age;
• graduates from abroad who have applied for a PhD project, but who have not yet worked with their potential PhD supervisor.
