Seminar on Regional Integration in Europe and Africa: Models, Practices and Comparative Perspectives, held at the University of Pretoria in February 2011.

In terms of its mission statement, the Chair aims, “through research, policy analysis and policy networking to help formulate and advocate policies that facilitate the free movement of people across borders. Its main focus for research and policy advocacy is the role of regional associations of governments in facilitating free movement both within and between regions. A particular emphasis of its work is to try to ensure that free movement takes place in conditions which enable those moving to access equitably entitlements to residence, work, social protection, health, education and other social services. An initial focus of the Chair is the furtherance of these objectives in Southern Africa.”

Professor Bob Deacon, senior visiting research fellow at UNU-CRIS and Professor of International Social Policy at the University of Sheffield, UK,  was appointed to the Chair in January 2011.

The newly-launched website provides information on the Chair’s various research programmes, partner organisations, and news and events. To visit the site, click here.
