Dr. Mabutho Shangase

Mabutho Shangase is a lecturer Lecturer, (Political Sciences: University of Pretoria). Dr. Shangase completed his Ph.D. in African Studies in 2016, at the University of Edinburgh. His studies were partly funded by the National Research Foundation (NRF-Free Standing Doctoral Scholarship). His thesis was titled “Stability and Change in South African Public Policy: 1994-2014”. He holds an MA degree in Development Studies from the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg (2008), and an MBA in Public Services Management from Aston University, Birmingham, United Kingdom (2005) on a Chevening Scholarship. 

He currently teaches research methodology and public policy at postgraduate level. 

Research focus:

The pursuit of Social Justice and Propagation of African Consciousness through Emancipatory Pedagogy. To the latter end, my aim is to conduct research and produce knowledge that aims at ameliorating the conditions of the marginalised both in material and epistemological terms. Public Policy Theory, Historical Institutionalism, Research Methodology, State Autonomy, Elite Formation.
