Breast cancer awareness in the genomic landscape

Researchers at the University of Pretoria (UP) are making today matter by battling aggressive breast cancer through identifying genes that make African women more susceptible to certain forms of breast cancer. However, this is no easy task as very little genomic information is known about African populations. This is just one of UP's research projects that aim to ensure that there is a clear benefit for society, and that in the future many more lives could be saved from the scourge of cancer.

This BASA Premium Scientific award recognises Prof Paola Wood, from the Department of Physiology, as a premium scientific contributor to the research and profession of biokinetics on both local and international levels.

Prof Wood has been involved in the profession of Biokinetics for many years and has promoted the profession of Biokinetics locally an internationally. She is a strong advocate for the growth of Biokinetics and the work she puts into her research and studies is an indication of her commitment. She is often called upon for conferences and seminars to present on her research.
