Module content

This module will provide students with detailed knowledge and understanding of the underlying policy and diverse provisions of the Competition Act 89 of 1998 (as amended) as well as practical guidance on the application thereof. The following aspects will be dealt with within the context of international comparative competition law:

  1. Introduction to competition policy, jurisdiction and the structure of competition authorities
  2. Economics of competition law
  3. Relevant aspects of markets and market power
  4. Horizontal agreements and restrictive horizontal practices
  5. Vertical agreements and restrictive vertical practices
  6. Abuse of dominance
  7. The Competition Act and price setting
  8. Exemption applications
  9. Merger assessment
  10. Merger regulation: legal and procedural aspects
