This programme focuses on research.

Admission requirements

  1. Relevant master’s degree
  2. A weighted average of at least 65% for the research component of the master’s degree
  3. An admissions essay may be required
  4. An entrance/admissions examination may be required

Note: Additional work/modules may be required in order to reach the desired level of competency

Additional requirements

  • An acceptable level of proficiency in English or Afrikaans is required.
  • An approved research proposal is required.

    A doctoral thesis under the promotorship of a senior researcher/lecturer. The thesis must contribute to new and independent research in the field of fine arts. Formal defence of the thesis before a panel of assessors.
