The Data Science Law Lab (a research group within the Faculty of Law at the University of Pretoria) will be hosting the first edition of the Africa, Law & [Emerging] Technologies Policy Hackathon in collaboration with the Data Science for Social Impact research group (Faculty of Engineering, Built Environment and IT). The Centre for Child Law and the Expression, Information and Digital Rights Unit, Centre for Human Rights (both at the University of Pretoria) as well as the South African National Bioinformatics Institute (University of the Western Cape) are providing collaboration and support as Challenge Partners.
This year’s hackathon is on the subject of data privacy and will take place in a hybrid format (in Pretoria and online) in July 2024 (date to be announced), with cash and other prizes up for grabs for the winning teams.
We are inviting all registered master’s and doctoral-level postgraduate students at a South African university who are interested in data privacy issues, especially relating to data sharing in public health during routine and emergency situations in South Africa, and in children and young persons' rights to privacy on digital platforms, to register by 30 April 2024 to take part in this great opportunity. All disciplines are welcome!
