The University of Pretoria is pleased to announce the appointment of Professor Kevin G F Thomas as Dean and Professor for the Faculty of Humanities, with effect from 1 May 2024.

Professor Thomas holds a PhD in Clinical Psychology (University of Arizona), MA in Clinical Psychology (University of Southern California) and a BA in Psychology (Harvard University). His first full-time academic position was at the University of Cape Town, where he started as a lecturer in the Department of Psychology. He has been the recipient of multiple research grants from the National Research Foundation and the Medical Research Council and has published over 100 peer-reviewed journal articles. Professor Thomas has supervised multiple honours, masters and PhD students since 2006. During his career he has been a member of various professional bodies, and he has academic management experience.

Professor Thomas is a member of the Applied Cognitive Science and Experimental Neuropsychology Team (ACSENT) in the Department of Psychology at the University of Cape Town. He is also a member of the South African Clinical Neuropsychological Association (SACNA), the Psychological Society of South Africa (PsySSA), the Association for Psychological Sciences (APS) and the Society for a Science of Clinical Psychology (SSCP).

We are delighted to have Prof Thomas join our vibrant Faculty of Humanities and our dynamic senior management group. We trust that his vast experience will take our Faculty to greater heights.
