The South Africa - Sweden University Forum (SASUF) 2030 is a transformative project uniting 39 universities from across Sweden and South Africa. SASUF brings together leading researchers, teachers, students, university leaders and other stakeholders, to develop joint solutions to the challenges posed by the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Agenda 2030.
Ten student representatives from 10 different SASUF Partner Universities met digitally in the Student Summit 2020 which was part of the SASUF goes digital summit, to exchange ideas, share best practices, and discuss shared challenges with the aim to learn from each other and find common solutions. The meetings also aimed at establishing networking channels between the students from all SASUF affiliated universities. In the meeting the student leaders identified two critical issues:
- Student inclusion in SASUF
- Knowledge sharing and networking
That is how the SASUF Student Network came about!
The SASUF Student Network is student networking platform that aims to bring together South African and Swedish students and other relevant stakeholders in research, education, and innovation to jointly engage on global challenges and their impact on society, especially the youth. The main activities in the project include research and innovation seminars, student and staff exchanges, and joint projects.
The main objectives of SASUF Student Network are to:
- Establish new relations and strengthen ongoing collaborative efforts in research, education, and Internationalization, especially concerning the SDGs
- Provide a networking platform for emerging researchers and students from both countries
- Strengthen the dialogue between South African and Swedish governments and funding agencies for future joint funding opportunities, especially in areas relating to SDGs
- Increase the understanding of each country's culture and societal conditions, as well as current and future sustainability challenges, as the basis for future cooperation activities
