The Special Collections Book of the Week this week is:
Mapungubwe: An Archaeological Interpretation of an Iron Age Community by Elizabeth Voigt
The Mapungubwe complex of Iron Age sites lies in the Limpopo Valley. The sites date to around 950-1150 A.D and are part of the Leopard’s Kopje A and B pottery traditions. Mapungubwe attracted a great deal of public interest when worked gold was discovered, associated with the Iron Age pottery, on Mapungubwe Hill in 1932. In this volume, the faunal material excavated since 1968 is described in detail, and used to reconstruct the economy, diet and cultural use of bone within the Mapungubwe community.
