Mr Frederick Malan, a final-year PhD student in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Pretoria, is one of only five South African postgraduate students selected to attend the 67th Nobel Laureate meeting in Lindau, Germany, from 25 to 30 June 2017.

Twenty-two outstanding scientists from all major regions of Africa will participate in the third round of the Africa Science Leadership Programme (ASLP). The scientists represent basic and applied sciences, and span a wide variety of disciplines including the social sciences and humanities.

This year's edition of the QS World University Rankings by Subject was published on 8 March 2017. The University of Pretoria has been ranked first in South Africa for Accounting and Finance, and placed in the 151–200 band (the top 4% of all participating institutions worldwide).
