One of the newest and most modern computer facilities available to students studying at the University of Pretoria, the Mining Industry Study Centre was envisioned to act as a support base for each student registered at the Faculty of Engineering.
Focusing on the requirements of our undergraduate cohort, the facility sports a unique design. These features include provision for a range of study spaces: incorporating group workspaces, a 3D printing room, and a number of different study areas to suit the various needs of students.
The facility is split into the following areas:
- Level 3
- 200 open access computers, used by an average of 105776 students per year.
- 60 dedicated stations for students who prefer to make use of their own computing devices.
- 30 CDIO (Conceive, Design, Implement and Operate) venues dedicated to group work. These rooms can accommodate up to 7 students, making use of their own devices or the devices and software provided, and each is equipped with a 28” LED screen for display purposes. The rooms host an average of 5674 students per year.
- Level 4
- 312 individual study cubicles equipped with power and wi-fi, as well as specially designed lighting for long study sessions.
