UP Law Professor Jacolien Barnard in the Department of Mercantile Law awarded 2019 Prize for Best Short Contribution in Contemporary Journal for Roman-Dutch Law (THRHR)

The Faculty of Law at the University of Pretoria (UP) announces with pride that Professor Jacolien Barnard in the Department of Mercantile Law is the recipient of the 2019 Prize for the Best Short Contribution as published in the Contemporary Journal for Roman-Dutch Law (THRHR) by the Vereniging Hugo de Groot.  The title of her contribution was "For whom the bells tolls':  The application of section 14 of the Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008 to residential lease agreements – Transcend Residential Property Fund Limited v Mati 2019 THRHR 164."  

In 2018, Barnard co-authored Consumer Protection Law in South Africa Second Edition, which provides essential commentary on legislation and case law.   

Her fields of expertise include national and international Consumer protection law, Law of specific contracts (such as sale, lease, agency surety), and Product liability law.
 
Dean Elsabe Schoeman and Acting Head of the Department of Mercantile Law, Professor Melanie Roestoff, congratulated Professor Barnard on this achievement and expressed their appreciation for her contribution to the high esteem of the Department and the Faculty of Law.
