Dr Tshepiso Ngoepe (née Scott)

Position, academic & professional qualifications

Dr Tshepiso Ngoepe (née Scott) is a lecturer in the Department of Mercantile Law and holds the degrees LLB, LLM (Pret), LLD (Unisa). The title of her doctoral thesis is “The realisation of rights in terms of the Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008” (2012). She is also an admitted attorney of the High Court.

Academic and professional experience

During the final year of her LLB studies (2012), Dr Ngoepe was an assistant in the Department of Public Law. She then became an academic associate in the Department of Jurisprudence while completing her LLM in Mercantile Law (2013). Hereafter Dr Ngoepe joined Cliffe Dekker Hofmeyr Incorporated in 2014 and was retained as an Associate in the Firm’s Corporate and Commercial Department. Thereafter, she moved to the Constitutional Court of South Africa in July 2016 as a law researcher. Dr Ngoepe then co-founded Tumbo Scott Incorporated in July 2017. She completed her LLD in 2018 and joined the Department of Mercantile Law in January 2020. Dr Ngoepe was also a University of Michigan African Presidential Scholar (UMAP Scholar) in 2023.

Teaching activities

Subjects she has taught include: Commercial Law, Company Law, Consumer Protection Law, and International Take-overs and Re-organisations.

Areas of specialisation

Dr Ngoepe’s main research interest is Consumer Protection Law. Other research interests include Company Law.
